Just returning this late saturday morning from Waveland Beach Florida, located in central St Lucie County, where the surf and winds are in control today. A 8mb pressure gradient is producing winds of 20-25 knots at the coast and a tad stronger offshore. This wind fetch is helping to produce surf at the coast around 10 feet and 15 feet offshore and in the Gulf stream.

This surf with the strong onshore winds is helping to produce impressive beach erosion during high tides. Tonights high tide with a full moon will likely continue the erosion problems through late sunday while the winds and waves are forecast to remain in place another 24-36 hours. It was a dead beach day as I did’nt see any people on the beach, and little surfers. The current today is strong and is likely why little surfers are out.

These beaches really have not fully recovered from Hurricane Frances and Jeanne a little over two years ago. Alot of the dunes and beach grass was damaged along with beach sands blowing and being washed away. Some beaches are worst than others and are feeling this weekends winds and surf over wash.

I’ll continue to monitor the coast later tonight and into tomorrow morning. Thats it for today…
