Severe storms over the Gulf coast states as we moving into the 2006 Christmas holiday weekend.

The Colorado Blizzard of December 2006 is setting snowfall records as we move into the holiday weekend. Denver saw nearly 25 inches of snow with surrounding areas seeing up to 3 feet of snow. Thousands were stuck at Denver International Airport, awaiting the roads and runways to clear. You can view some excellent photos from fellow Storm Chasers Verne Carlson and Tony Laubach, of the bizzard. Tony’s blog report has many of  the crazy and impressive snowfall totals, and a must see. Both Verne and Tony have done a great job on the Blizzard of 2006 coverage in Colorado.

This same storm system was producing severe storms in the south along the Gulf coast most of Thursday. These heavy rains were expected to move into the southeast US and Mid-Atlantic over the next 24-48 hours. Another Gulf of Mexico storm is forecast to develop over the Christmas holiday weekend and affect the southeast and Florida with heavy rains, severe storms and gusty winds.

I’m on standby for later this weekend (sun-mon) for possible severe storms ahead of a expected potent squall line some time on Christmas. Timing of this new system is still a little tough at this time, and will look over more later tonight and on Saturday to fine tune a chase forecast.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend…Watch the wet roads and leave early if your going to have to drive through some rough weather. Play it safe on the highways this weekend.

More to come…..
