Christmas Day Storm SYstem Taking Shape Over Gulf

Ugh, went to sleep only a few hours ago as seen in my last post, and I’m already up and getting ready for a busy day. Tomorrow (Christmas Day) will be just as busy, but only with some storms thrown into the day as well.
Squall line now expected on Christmas Day between late morning and late afternoon. Wind fields look to be unidirectional, so this looks to be more of a severe wind and hail event with the line of storms than isolated rotating storms. Embedded short-lived supercells are still possible and a few weak tornadoes if the winds can back just a tad.
It looks as of now the low pressure area will track more northeast into the Panhandle, where there will be a small area of backed winds up near the Big Bend area. I’m thinking of just playing the line and hoping for a few isolated cells out in front to develop, but if not, just playing the line of storms will satisfied my craving for convective weather. Another issue could be cloud cover, and if we can get some heating early in the day ahead of the squall line, then there might be a chance of a few storms to develop out ahead.
So, the active southern Subtropical Jet Stream remains active bringing our first severe weather event during Christmas in many years. I’m looking forward to seeing any type of storm structure, like a beefy shelf cloud with the line, or a nice structured isolated cell….anything! It will be nice to see some lightning and hear some good thunder.
I have Christmas Eve parties I’m attending this afternoon and tonight, so my next update likely won’t be until either late tonight or first thing Christmas morning. Wishing everyone a safe and fun Merry Christmas and holiday season. Those in the south and along the eastern US, play it safe today, tonight and Christmas Day with all the rain and storms on the road.
Awaiting the storms,

It’s great to see your blog is back after a lull during the summer. Our studio here links to it now, and several people on the research dept post it on our in-house network.
Good luck this weekend.
