Looking like a very small chance of seeing a isolated supercell moving onshore the west coast of Florida overnight tonight and early Sunday. A low pressure system will be pulling out of the northern Gulf of Mexico late today and setting up some nice wind fields over the Gulf waters where severe storms are forecast to develop. The warm waters and Gulf loop current will help with instability, but once any storm reaches the west coast of Florida the instability will weaken fast over the cooler and drier mainland.

The storms are expected to be fast moving, so if anything reaches the coast, there is a chance to see something come ashore that’s rotating and possible produce a short-lived tornado and/or some wind damage. It might just be worth it just to shoot some lightning offshore if anything. I’ll be monitoring the setup later today into tonight and will decide if I’ll drive over to Tampa or Clearwater for some possible storm action.

With me going in for surgery (noted in below post) I’m open for anything convective wise. I’ll keep you posted.
