Nothing worth getting out of bed early this morning storm wise as instability is almost nil over the mainland, and even over the Gulf waters. Only a few storms, very weak storms at that, have developed and dissipated. Light to moderate rains are falling over central Florida and southeast Florida. Lightning data only shows a few strikes down near the Florida Keys where there are a few stronger cells this morning over the warmer waters. Nothing to chase and leave the comfort of home during these pre-dawn hours. Back to bed soon.

So at least some locations are receiving some needed rainfall out of this system and next to come is a expected strong wind surge behind the front and low pressure system. High wind warnings posted for Florida’s west coast and area lakes. Coldest air of the last 2 years expected to rush in later today and tonight, bringing freezing temperatures to central Florida. Over the next few nights we could be seeing upper 20s in central Florida and 30s in southern inland Florida.

The Southeast U.S. and Florida will see much more winter like weather over the next week with freezing temperatures, some winter precipitation over the southeast, and cold wind chills. After such a warm December and most of January so far, winter returns for many on the east coast.

Now that I know there’s nothing to chase, I’m off to get back into my nice warm bed and sleep in until late morning. I’d rather be chasing though.
