Florida waking up to freezing temperatures over the central and northern sections of the state, with isolated 32F readings in inland south Florida. High cirrus clouds moving in from the Gulf of Mexico might have saved many locations from going below the freezing mark. Still, a lot of sub-freezing temperature readings over Florida that are still affecting orange crops and such. I’m hoping all my coconut palm trees at home are handling the cold weather. I’m away at the moment in West Palm Beach for some foot surgery later this morning. Winter defiantly showing it’s face this morning in south Florida. Cold weather shelters are open in Palm Beach and surrounding counties, and sugar farmers and other crops farmers are using helicopters to help warm the ground below by circulating the air around the crops. Several hours of below freezing temperatures will kill off many tropical crops and plants.
The temperatures are forecast to warm some today and continue into the week with last night being the coldest in over 2 years. By the weekend, we should be back in the mid 80s under a nice warm sun.
