Today is the big foot surgery day and I’m waking up to being hungry due to not being allowed to eat or drink since midnight last night. My lovely roommate has been so helpful this morning with him ordering his TWO fully loaded breakfast trays. All I can smell is the nice warm eggs and bacon coming from the other side of the room. I can see the glazed donuts just sitting in arms reach of me right now, and I guess he’s too full to pack them in as well. His doctor just came in and said he was going home, and that he is healing well… I’m sure he is the way he is eating. Man am I hungry! Lets get this surgery over with already so I can eat a grilled cheese sandwich.

My surgeon came in early this morning and said everything looks on track for later this morning. He said I would be getting a nice IV cocktail to mellow me out about and hour before bringing me down to the OR. He also said the operation should be short (15-30mins) and between the IV cocktail, the twilight meds, and the local, I shouldn’t feel a thing and recover pretty fast. I told him I’m looking forward only to the IV cocktail hour. Kersten just got here and she will head down to the OR with me later this morning, and I have her setup to shoot some photos of me enjoying my IV cocktail on the way into OR. Should be funny.

My first day here at the hospital (Sunday) was pure hell due to some people not knowing what they are doing I guess. I was sent here on Sunday to direct admit myself for the surgery. They needed to monitor my blood thinners that I take before the surgery and that’s why I came in so early. Well they don’t direct admin on Sundays! So I’m sent down to the ER to see what they can do. Well they book me into the ER as a direct admit, but there are no rooms upstairs for me until Monday. Well that’s right… I sat and spent the night in the ER hallway with freaks, people being sick, and some guy they felt he needed to sleep right next to me every time I moved. I should of been filming a segment like “Life in the ER”. All the drama kept me from sleeping at all and Monday came with little sleep the last 24 hours. By mid morning Monday they got me a room and off I went to the fifth floor of JFK Medical Center.

As I write this now, the nurse just came in and said I’m heading down to the OR at 11:00am for my pre-op cocktails and setup. Surgery is booked for 12:15pm ET. So I better get off of here and visit with Kersten since she just got here and hope to head down before my roommate orders his lunch. Hope to post again this evening….if I’m awake enough.

“Mr Gammons - I need you to count backwards from 10” Ok- 10–9–8–7—–6——-5—-4 ahhh lights out!
