Battle of The Seasons, Severe Storms This Weekend

The battle of the seasons is about to get underway this weekend. A pretty potent storm system will be developing over the Plains this weekend, were tornadic thunderstorms are possible, along with damaging straight line winds. It’s still early in the game, but the computer forecast models with each run are getting a better handle on the situation. Several days of return flow from the Gulf of Mexico, will aid in bringing rich warm moisture into the Plains states where the battle over cold and warm will take place. This looks to be the first severe weather event for the Plains this year, and many more will follow this spring.
This whole system will not only affect the Plains, but will move eastward into the Mississippi and Ohio valleys, with a chance of tornadoes, severe storms, with large hail and winds. Even the deep south and into the southeast will have it’s share of storms late in the weekend likely with a squall line from the storm system. Severe weather looks to be in the headlines this weekend starting on Friday through Sunday night. It’s wise for residents of the Plains, Midwest, and deep south, to watch weather forecasts later in the week and be sure to have those NOAA Weather Alert radios in working order, especially for those that will be dealing with overnight severe storms.
Storm Chaser chatter has already begun about this system for the Plains this weekend, and many Chasers might be giving it a go as their first big chase of the early season. I’ll be in contact with some fellow chaser friends and will update on the status of any chasing over the weekend. With this being a fast moving system, and severe storms expected to be moving over 50mph, I’ll be sitting this one out, unless things hold together in the southern states.
More to come later this week on this storm event.
