A cut off upper level low pressure system, will keep the severe weather active in the southern central states and move into the northern Gulf coast and Mississippi Valley today. This is the same system that brought the wild tornado outbreak on Wednesday to the High Plains, and the isolated tornadoes on Thursday in Oklahoma, where cars and trucks were thrown off the highway. Large hail and damaging straight-lines winds affects the greater Dallas area southward. The central and southern Plains look to have at least another day of possible severe storms, with a tornado or two and large hail events.

Things will slowly shift eastward with the upper-level disturbance and the south could see it share of some possible severe weather and some well needed rainfall. The deep south and southeast have been well below normal for severe weather this spring so far. Normally this time of year, there or more tornado events in the southeast and Mississippi Valley than the western High Plains. I was speaking with a fellow Storm Chaser on Wednesday about how it feels more like May with the current severe storm setup than late March.

Here in Florida we have been sitting under a ridge now for over a week, and this is more normal for mid to late April into May. The state is currently fighting a decent drought at this time, and Florida could use days of heavy rain to help prevent a possible wild fire season to remember. No large amounts of rain in the current forecast. Still wishing for some rain. The rainy season in Florida begins in May, with the daily afternoon sea breeze convective thunderstorms, that almost develop on the dot each afternoon. Also the tropical Atlantic starts sending in area’s low pressure and tropical waves, bring rains, but for now, only frontal boundaries are the main player. A stout ridge will keep any fronts well north, so the dry weather to continue.

I will be monitoring the possible severe weather later today over the central Untied States, and south, but for now it’s off to take of some business. Happy FRIDAY everyone!
