Spring Storm Season Returns Today, Tornadoes Expected

Tornado Outlook Map The Southern Plains and Deep South will once again finally return to a spring mode, with a expected severe weather outbreak over the next 48 hours. Today the severe weather with break out in central and eastern Texas, where Supercells, line segments and isolated possible strong tornadoes are forecast from the Storm Prediction Center. Damaging straight-line winds and very large hail are the main threats, but as the day wears on, the tornado threat will increase. This sounds more like spring, than freezing temperatures over the South in April.

Storm Chasers living in the Southern Plains and Northern Gulf coast area’s are gearing for some Supercell action today and Saturday. The Chaser chatter is very active this morning, discussing which focal points looks like the best to chase. The warm front boundary looks to be socked in with clouds, and in bad chasing terrain, while playing the dryline boundary looks better as in chasing location, and road networks, but the better wind dynamics look to be along the warm front.

Everyone will be looking for that discrete Supercell for the best chance of a long-live tornado. Although it’s not the best chase area to document severe storms, it’s a pretty impressive setup and Chasers will dive into crazy tree and hill locations just to see some rotating convection.

If you live in Eastern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and northern Florida, you better keep tabs on the severe weather over the weekend. Moderate Risks today and tomorrow over all of these locations, and expecting a true severe storm outbreak, bringing spring back to the normal locations for this time of year. I’ll be chasing tomorrow the second event over the northern Gulf coast and deep south.

Expect weather headlines all weekend from the severe weather events over the South, to the developing possible strong Nor Easter along the eastern coastal U.S.. Could see hurricane force winds offshore and along some of the Northeast this late weekend. Stay tuned.
