Spent some of the day yesterday running around doing hardware errands to get things ready for the full blown storm chase season. I’m also working with a local publication on a series of hurricane stories for Florida Hurricane Week, and was meeting on that as well. Weather-wise things are just basically very slow here in Florida right now and this is allowing me to get caught up on things before I get busy. You can only cover so much of a drought.

I’m seriously debating if I’m going to be doing a large 3 weeks chase expedition this season in Tornado Alley, or break it up into last minute fly into target area chases, for the larger setups. I don’t want to blow a lot of my 2007 budget hanging out in the Plains during 12 days of ridging. Might wait until it looks like a more active pattern in late May / early June to head out.

Hurricane season is just a little over a month away, and I’m putting much of my budget and time into this season over anything else. I love chasing in the Plains, and love chasing Supercells and playing the boundaries in West Texas, but Tropical Cyclones have also been my favorite to forecast and chase. I’m planning on spending less this year chasing in the Plains and more in the hurricane department. Without any hurricane chases for me in 2006, due to a slower season, I’m truly in need of some tropical storm chasing.

I believe if I chase a few larger setups in the Plains and spread it out over Late May into Late June, I should satisfy my Mesocyclone chasing for the year. I’m still not 100% set on this and still could end up chasing for 3 weeks straight. I also need to discuss this with a few fellow chasers. I’ll keep you updated on this as I learn more in the coming weeks.

For now, might head down to shoot some video of the surf this morning and anything else that catches my eye. Forecast headlines at least for here are dry for the next 7-10 days. I’m sure I’ll be watching the storms in the Plains this weekend once again, wishing I was out there.

Have a good Thursday!
