Possible tornado outbreak april 23, 2007The atmosphere is priming itself up once again for a expected significant severe weather outbreak over the southern High Plains today. Most of the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, western Kansas, and western Oklahoma, will be in the target later this afternoon for tornadoes, (some violent) damaging straight-line winds, and very large hail. A deepening mid and upper level low is slowly moving out of the southwest later today and expected to come together with the dryline and other surface features that will set off a round of likely Supercell thunderstorms.

The Southern Plains comes alive once again this early to mid spring. Storms Chasers are getting into place for later this afternoon. There have been so many tornadoes filmed over the last 4-5 weeks, will there be anything left to catch in May and June? I’m sure there will… The southern Plains, like in Texas, has had a below tornado count for many years due to the drought and now it looks like west Texas is trying to play catch up in a fast way. Expect more tornado totals added by this evening.

I’ll have more detailed updates later this afternoon once we get closer to the storms and expected tornadoes, so be sure to stop by later. Also check out some of Saturdays Storm Chaser report links in yesterdays post below, including tornado video and photos from Tulia. Texas and several other tornado accounts from over the weekend.

Stay tuned!
