Yesterday was the last day of severe storms for the Plains for at least two days. Yesterday turned out to be another busy tornado day for Storm Chasers and residents of Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. There were several reports of tornadoes in east-central Colorado, one being near Arapahoe, Co that lasted for 19 minutes or so, another one close to Wildhorse, Co where there was some damage in town and flying debris. In Lincoln, County, Colorado there was a report of 5 tornadoes on the ground from Chasers in the area.
Kansas had it’s go around with tornadoes later in the day, after Chasers waited for the second round of storms to fire off behind the first MCS of the day. Sure enough, a tornadic Supercell developed and started producing tornado reports near Nickerson and Sterling, Kansas in Reno, County. This storm was well documented by Chasers and media. In Texas there was a short-lived tornado on the ground outside of Ft Worth and another much more larger tornado on the ground near Eagle Pass, Texas, which is located along the Mexican border. This is a huge long-track, cyclic, Tornadic Supercell, that had two confirmed tornadoes, that produced damage and injuries.
The Plains states should get a few down days of severe weather as everything shift eastward into the Mississippi Valley today and then into the Southeast on Thursday. There have been likely near 100 tornado reports in the last week or two over the Plains. A busy start to spring 2007, especially for Texas. Texas has tornadoes again.
Here are some Storm Chaser Tornado and Storm reports for April 24, 2007. I’ll add as they come in.
