Sea Breeze Thunderstorms Come Alive In Florida

It was a lovely sight to see sea breeze thunderstorms develop late this afternoon and evening over Southeastern Florida. The east coast sea breeze boundary, along with the Lake Okeechobee breeze boundary, converged over western Palm Beach County, where thunderstorms exploded. These were slow moving, if not stationary storms that put down some nice rainfall. If you were lucky enough to get under one of theses today, you likely picked up a inch or two of rain. Est radar totals ranged from 1-4 inches in a very small area along the Martin / Palm Beach county line.
Although these thunderstorms formed today, it was over a very small area along the boundary. The storms moved little, but at least some locations received heavy rains today. There was a lot of lightning with the cells, and we might see some brushfires pop up overnight, especially where cloud-to-ground lightning strikes took place outside of the main precipitation area’s.
It was nice to see the radar with sea breeze convective activity, and look out my back window to see a huge back sheared anvil over take the southern skies. It’s a sign that our rainy season is almost here. The sea breeze circulations are becoming more well developed each afternoon, and soon our daily thunderstorm pattern will kick in, at least we hope it does.
Going to watch another hour or so to see if any outflow boundaries set off any new development after dark with lightning. Have a good evening.
Update: 10:37pm ET:
The southwestern end of the boundary ended up firing off another large lightning storm after dark over the northern Everglades area tonight. I got in a good 25 minutes of lightning video and some time lapse from the last of the storms along the east coast sea breeze boundary that pushed well into the Everglades. It sure was a nice evening to sit back and watch vivid CGs / CC dance in the nice sky. Look for a update in the am.
