Subtropical Storm Andrea Weakens, Big Florida Surf

Subtropical Storm Andrea is not looking so hot this morning, as strong wind shear and more dry air move in and around the cyclone this morning. What little deep convection there is, is all displaced to the east and northeast of the weak broad low level circulation. Overall, Andrea seems to be slowly drifting southwestward along the northeast Florida coast. This is expected to continue through the day as she weakens further. The NHC 5am forecast track actually turns the remains of the Subtropical storm to the south and east. This is not going to help with brining rains to South Georgia and Florida to help with the wildfires ongoing.
If the wind shear and dry air were to relax some, then there might be a chance of some further development with Andrea, but at this time, that does not look like the case, and with a another upper level system moving in from the west in a few days, she’s likely to get kicked out to the east soon anyways. I would just love for her to stall over central Florida and dump some heavy rains. Plus, having a weak low over central Florida and throw in some sea breeze boundaries, and whoa!, we just might have some fun storm action here.
The swells from Subtropical Storm Andrea are some of the most impressive in years hitting Florida beaches the last 72 hours. Yesterday the winds went very light offshore, smoothing out the choppy sea’s and leaving nothing but a glassy 10-12 foot northeast ground swell heaven for surfers up and down central and south Florida surf hotspots. I stopped by several beaches chatting with fellow surfers and filmed some great ride sessions. Here are some video captures pictures of the large clean ground swell waves moving into Palm Beach County, Florida, at Lantana Beach, where also they received major beach erosion damage, and other structure damage to condo’s further up the beach.
I’ll be watching our little early season weakening storm here throughout the day for any signs that she wants to hold on longer. I’m off to cover some of the 100 wildfires now burning in Florida the last few days, that started from all that lightning we had last week. Southwest Florida has several large wildfires that continue, so Andrea needs to continue drifting southwestward and lay over Lake Okeechobee for 3 days.

nice waves!!!
mother nature has disapointed me a little i was hoping for a little rain relief.
Morning Jess - Yes I know what you mean. I’m disapointed too, and was want more rain action out of her. Still hoping for some thunderstorms later today and tomorrow, but likely very slim. The only good convergence in the state today will be between the east coast sea breeze and lake okeechobee breeze. A very small area. I’ll be watching closely though.
