Storm Chasers Await Storms After Downtime

Plains storm season returns this afternoon and evening after a break from the severe weather. Yesterday, large hail storms developed over the northern High Plains in South Dakota. Hail and damaging winds were the main outcome of the storms. Here is a radar picture of one of the severe hail storms east of Rapid City, SD. I was using the new WeatherTap RadarLab HD.
As for today, the northern High Plains will see another round of likely just hail storms, but much further south into the southern High Plains in Texas, there is a somewhat better tornado chance with the stronger Supercells that develop along the dryline. After such a long period of down time severe weather-wise, Storm Chasers, Storm Chasing Tours, and anyone sitting in a motel room for the last week or so, will try and target something today up and down the dryline.
I’ll keep an eye on things out there later this afternoon once things get popping and update here, but for now I must hit the road for some video work today.
