Close Florida Lightning Strike Picture

I was out shooting thunderstorm time lapse video this afternoon and had a nice close-by Cloud-to-Ground (CG) lightning strike in the field in front of me. I was panning the camera at the moment of the strike, so the image is a little grainy. You can see a thin leader branch at ground level leading up to the main branch of lightning. The shockwave of thunder was almost simultaneously with the flash, and put a nice boom in your chest. This is not the closest strike I’ve seen, but was interesting to me. I have had some real close calls in the past, and I’ll try and gather up a few for a future post.
Turned out to be a fun day of chasing lightning storms on the first day of summer. I’ll be posting the time-lapse video of the thunderstorms tomorrow.
