Deep tropical moisture filtering into the area later today as a tropical wave that’s currently moving into the Bahamas, reaches our coast by afternoon. Heavy rains at the beaches, with thunderstorms over the mainland is expected over the next 24-36 hours with the passage of the wave. It’s a moisture thick morning out there, and it’s already raining in some locations, including here. Let’s hope we can pick up some widespread 2-3 inches of rain with this tropical wave to help with the drought and water levels in area lakes and canals.
Water Spout Season
I was talking with another Storm Chaser yesterday about how the water spout season in the Florida Keys is becoming more active. Last week they had a large amount of long-lived nice sized water spouts down there, and I’m thinking it’s about time for a little expedition in the coming weeks for some spout chasing. I’ll keep you posted on that venture and any upcoming plans.
I’m shooting today for two clients with all the rain expected today, so I’m up early with my gear ready for the day. I’ll be hanging around the coastal beaches today, and metro South Florida awaiting the heavy rains. With the passage of a tropical wave, it brings in such deep moisture from the deep tropics, and I love the smell of the breezes off of the ocean waters this time of year. Anyways…. Busy day ahead and I must get ready to hit the road…. Have a good Wednesday folks!

Water spout chasing sounds pretty fun. Saw one on the news this AM out of the Keys. Very cool.
Yeah the peak season is coming up in July. Light calm winds of the summer over the smooth waters of the FLorida Keys, and some CU convergence lines, and bam!
I came across a landspout today between Lake Okeechobee and West Palm Beach. Very short-lived, but cool….pic is coming.
oooo waterspouts are amazing. We used to spend Every weekend on the water when i was young, and we never saw any, haha….we werent looking of course, but you would have thought, after all those years, maybe one, haha…one day though.
When I use to surf almost daily back in my late teens and early 20s, I use to see them all the time offshore a few miles early in the morning. These days, I spends days on end searching for them in the summer months and maybe come across a weak one well offshore.
Yeah, thats how life is, strange…haha, I guess thats why we carry our video cameras everywhere!
