July Opens With More Thunderstorms

It’s truly summer now as we begin July today. It sure feels like summer outside with temperatures heading for the 90s, dew points in the mid 70s, and precipitable water levels (Pwat = amount of moisture in the column of the atmosphere) are near 2.15, making the atmosphere juiced and geared for heavy rains. Expecting another day of widespread showers and thunderstorms as everything is in place for a active day. A upper-level low over the Gulf will help filter in some cooler temperature aloft today aiding in the development of some stronger lightning storms this afternoon. A ton of heating is taking place again with a full sun heating the Florida ground. The mean flow is light, so sea breeze and lake boundaries will be everywhere, so there will be plenty area‘s of convergence.
Our lightning storm pattern should continue right through the 4th of July holiday, so I might be dodging mother natures own fireworks show around mine fireworks show Wednesday night at our annual July Fourth block party in Boca Raton, Florida. Good thing all this heavy rain has been falling because the lightning has been pretty impressive all weekend and expected to continue.
Heading out once again today to capture the summer convective season in action. What better way to spend a summer Sunday in Florida….if you’re a weather nut that is….
