Florida Spouts, Storms, and Sunrise

Yesterday morning as I was driving into the metro area of south Florida, you could see the sunrise give way to towering early morning thunderstorms at the beach. It was a awesome sight to see as storms rocked right along the coast. Throughout the morning hours, several water spout reports came in from spouts near Ft Lauderdale and Boca Raton. I was able to capture the leftovers of a small weak funnel that was moving onshore near Lantana Beach, located in Central Palm Beach County.

I filmed as another cell tried to get going right at the coast over the resorts, filming people running from all the wild close lightning. The storm had a little low-level spin to it as it slowly moved north of the beach. The storm had a nice little bowl shape structure to the base before outflow winds form a storm further south cut it off. Yesterday was another fun Florida storm day, but this time at the beaches. I plan to hunt down more water spouts in the coming weeks, possibly Florida Keys trip in the works as well.

And it continues….

TIMING OF STORM INITATION DEPENDENT ON EXTENT OF DEBRIS SPREAD VERSUS SUNSHINE THIS MORNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF EAST COAST SEA BREEZE. IN ADDITION TO HEAVY DOWNPOUR AND LIGHTNINGCONCERNS…THE ENHANCED WINDS ALOFT AND BOUNDARY INTERACTIONS WILL MAKE ENVIRONMENT MORE FAVORABLE FOR BRIEF FUNNEL/TOR/SPOUT FORMATION ALONG BOUNDARIES.

As for today, yet another active strong to severe thunderstorm day shaping up. What a great thunderstorm season here in Florida compared to the last two years. I feel like things are a little back to normal over the state. The drought still has it’s marks, but the rains are here. I have some early day errands to complete, but I will be focused on all the mesoscale boundaries that are almost like clock-work later today. Nothing in the tropics to even look at, so my attention remains on the lightning storm season here in Florida….for now.
