Delta II Launch Gas Strange Picture - Phoenix Launch August 4, 2007

I completely forgot about the launch this morning from Cape Canaveral, Florida of the Delta II rocket that carried the Phoenix Spacecraft on it’s journey to Mars. Kersten woke me about 5:55am on her way out the door to work, all hyped up about something outside in the sky. I rushed to the front deck to only see the left over’s from the launch of the rocket trail and gas plume. It was very cool as the gas plume was being illuminated by the sun that was still below the horizon making for a awesome scene in the dark morning sky.

I knew right away what it was, because only a few months ago, I shot a similar after launch photograph of the gas trail plume over the Space coast after the launch of STS-117 Atlantis Shuttle mission back on June 8, 2007. Both scenes were very vivid and ghostly looking, with such a cool blend of colors and transparent shades. I was bummed that I missed the launch of the rocket as I forgot about it as I was too wrapped up in shooting some great storm structure the evening before (post and pictures coming later today) and then stayed up late watching movies.

Space Shuttle Endeavour STS-118 Launch

That’s ok though, because another launch is on deck next week on August 8, 2007, if everything holds together. The launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour STS-118 will launch at 6:36pm ET (pictures & video), on it’s way to the International Space Station for another mission. I hope to be on location at the Cape for that launch. Stay tuned!
