Update: 11:32am ET Storm Chaser Update Hurricane Dean

Storm Chaser Jim Edds is on the ground in Kingston Jamaica and just updated me with a short email. The pressure is falling steady now on the island and the winds will be soon to follow.

Well, so much for napping . . . just can’t seem to sleep on this trip.  Pressure is 997mb, light rain, and wind is still light.  I’m on the 6th floor of the Hotel.

Quick update: 10:05am ET: Dean Nearing Jamaica

Spoke to Jim via email a short time ago and he was going to nap for about an hour and then head out. Hurricane Dean is looking more like he might skirt the southern coast of Jamaica putting much of the island in the northern eyewall, which is where the strongest winds and surge are. The island might not get the calm of the eye, but southern coast looks to feel some very strong winds. Were only hours away from the full force of Dean in Kingston and I’ll continue to update on Storm Chaser Jim Edds status on the ground there.

Stay tuned!

Pre-Hurricane Dean Video Kingston Jamaica

Some of the first pre-Hurricane Dean video and pictures from Kingston Jamaica are coming in now from Hurricane Chaser Jim Edds. Jim is on location in Jamaica for the landfall of Major Hurricane Dean. You can read the full introduction post to this expedition here.

Jim spent much of Saturday touring around Kingston filming all the people preparing for Dean and scouting filming area’s for during the eyewall passage. In the follow video clip about, you’ll see locals boarding up with hurricane shutters, planes flying out of the airport and beautiful weather as Dean track closer and closer from the east.

I expect more updates from Jim as we get closer to the direct impact of category 4 Hurricane Dean later this morning. The worst of Dean looks to be around midday through the afternoon hours, so check back often for the latest on this hurricane chase intercept in Jamaica with fresh video and picture from the storm.
