Post Update: 11:14am ET - Ingrid downgraded to a Tropical Depression now after hostile wind shear has taken it’s toll on the weak tropical cyclone. Expected to remain a Depression through the next 5 days, unless it dissipates altogether, which is very possible.
Tropical Storm Ingrid Nothing To Talk About
Quick update on Tropical Storm Ingrid that’s likely already a Tropical Depression once again as very strong shear tears apart the weak storm. Ingrid is not worth a full post today as she is expected to weaken even more and will be lucky to survive over the weekend. I’ll post more on Ingrid if she holds together over the weekend and starts to redevelop, otherwise that’s it for updates on this weak, struggling storm.
Florida Thunderstorm Season Has Been Active Lately
The Florida storms have been pretty active lately, especially over interior locations of the state, which is where it is needed the most to help with the Florida drought. Over the last 5-6 days, daily strong lightning storms have develop in and around the Lake Okeechobee area’s brining some nice rainfall. Some locations to the north and east of the lake have picked up some impressive rainfall totals with repeated storms over the same locations day after day. Here at my home I have seen close to 4 inches over the last week, which has help tremendously with my lawn that has suffered from the drought and the once a week watering restrictions.
Chasing The Local Storms

I have been out twice in the last few days shooting lightning video, some storm structure time-lapse of Florida’s great shelf-clouds. Trying to get in some local chasing here before the convective thunderstorm season begins to settle down as we move closer to fall. With no hurricane chase opportunities yet this hurricane season, unless you lived close enough for Hurricane Humberto’s sneaky landfall last week, I have been wanting to chase as much as I can with local storms to keep me busy through these slow hurricane times.
Nice Weekend Ahead
So, I’m off to enjoy a mid September hot weekend around the house, while I keep and eye on the afternoon sea breeze boundaries and the native convective hot spots for some lighting and storm observing fun later today. Have a great weekend!
