Typhoon Wipha - Northwest Western Pacific

Super Typhoon Wipha China Picture Satellite Track

China Braces For Super Typhoon Wipha Today

As the hurricane season here in the Atlantic basin is all quiet at the moment, there is a powerful Typhoon that is about to make landfall in China. Super Typhoon Wipha is moving towards the China coastline packing winds over 140mph with higher gusts. Typhoon Wipha earlier passed right over Iriomote-jima, a small island east of Taiwan. The powerful cyclone then passed just to the north of northern Taiwan brushing the city of Taipei.

Typhoon Wipha is now heading towards the eastern China coast and threatens large population area’s near Ningbo and Shanghai. In the above satellite track map image, you can click on it to view a larger and more detailed look at the satellite image and forecast track showing the landfall expected location.

Typhoon Storm Chase Intercept Mission

There is one Storm Chaser that I’m aware of trying to intercept Typhoon Wipha in eastern China. His name is James Reynolds’s, also known as “Typhoon Hunter”. Last word from him on a forum, was he was in Wenzhou, which is south of Shanghai, all setup for the early morning expected landfall of this impressive Typhoon. I’ll be monitoring his progress and will add any interesting news from his end to this post. He has a nice collection of past Typhoon intercept pictures on this website that are worth a look.
