Hurricane Noel Expected To Become Large Extratropical Cyclone

Hurricane Noel remains a 80 mph hurricane with some decent structure early this morning. The hurricane is racing northward a few hundred miles of the eastern United States east coast at 17-20mph. In the next 24 hours or so, Hurricane Noel is expected to transition into a very large extratropical cyclone with a very large wind field over the northwest Atlantic. Noel should maintain is current strength as a category 1 hurricane until the transition somewhere east of Cape Cod, MA.

Who Along The East Coast Will Feel Noel Winds?

Locations from North Carolina northward into Main could feel some winds from Noel as the hurricane passes by to the east. Once the storm become extratropical, the wind field will expand even more, so some gusty winds could be felt in location like Cape Cod, along with very large surf up and down the east coast from the storm.

Canada Maritime Provinces / Nova Scotia Could See The Worst

The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center brings the center of Hurricane Noel or Extratropical Noel, right into Nova Scotia early Sunday morning. Everywhere from New Brunswick eastward to Halifax, Clark’s Harbor, Yarmouth, and Fredericton, Canada, could see some impressive winds and rains from the storm. These locations look to take more of a direct hit from the winds and heavy weather from the transitioning cyclone over the weekend.
