Oregon & Washington Deal With Damaging Storm Winds

Hurricane Winds Pound Pacific Northwest Coast
I guess if you want to see hurricane force winds lately, you need to travel to the Pacific northwest. Washington and Oregon both have been pounded with hurricane-force winds as a intense Pacific Ocean storm moved inland on Sunday and Monday. Video scenes on TV coming in from western Oregon and Washington coastlines is very impressive. The winds were gusting up to 90mph at the coast. Power lines are down literally all over both states, and they’re blocking the major roadways along the coast creating transportation problems.
Not only were the strong winds a problem, but significant rainfall was creating flash flooding and mudslides that were only adding to the situation. The storm system has now weakened and winds and rains have relaxed from earlier levels. The clean up process will begin, but many roadways are still closed due to mudslides and downed large tree’s from the strong winds. Those Pacific Northwest storms really pack a punch. I’d really like to one day intercept one near the coast to experience it. I’ve been told they are a cold version on a category 1 hurricane.
We Need A Real Storm Here In The South
I could do without all the destruction and danger to people, but the southeast coast needs a good strong storm system to wake up this very boring weather pattern lately. A nice southern jet stream low pressure system would make things a tad more interesting here, and give us a little more to talk about, and document. A real dry pattern has been in place, with ridging. Now a cold front has moved through drying it out even more, and dropping the temperatures for the next few days. Nothing major on the horizon for us with a zonal pattern setting up for the rest of the week.
I’m afraid that blog headlines of drought updates and wildfires will once again repeat itself in the coming weeks and months of winter. Florida and Georgia, and I’m sure other southeastern states, are still dealing with water restrictions and major drought concerns.
Looking for some decent rain please…
