Early January Continues To Rock With Storms

Deep south radar stormsAnother wild day of spring-like severe storms, but this time moving through the Ohio, and Mississippi valleys on Tuesday. Several new tornado reports on Tuesday from Arkansas, Southeastern Missouri and Tennessee, on top of the many dozen reports of large hail and damaging straight-line winds from bow-echoes and Microburst’s. A pretty nasty and potent squall line raced across the Mississippi Valley and into the Deep South, feeding off of all the deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. This was the second day of severe storms , and warm temperatures over a large portion of the eastern United States, that you would normally see in March and April. A busy start to the tornado count for 2008 already here in early January. Wonder what the spring will bring in the next few months.forecast models

The Southeast States Looking For Some Rain

The Southeastern States, like in Alabama, Georgia and Florida, really could use some rain, and there looks like maybe Thursday through Friday, all three states might get more than just some rain showers. Thursday there is a slight risk of severe storms moving into the area ahead of another moderate trough, but a possible low pressure center might form along this featured helping to increase the thunderstorm and severe storm potential. Later into Friday, chances of a few isolated storms might continue into Florida, but a tad weaker and less coverage due to less dynamics….of course being my luck. It all depends on any low that forms in the Gulf and any decent convergence that we can get at the surface. Trust me, I’m watching closely at any opportunities to chase some even weak bird-fart storms. I’ll take whatever I can get in January storm-wise.

End of Week In View

We’ve all made it to the middle of the week, so the weekend is already on the horizon. A lot of good football this weekend and possible storms for me down here in central and Southern Florida, so it’s beginning to look like a exciting weekend either way. What’s your plans this weekend and does it include waiting around for the weather? Ha!

Have a good Wednesday!
