Possible Gulf Storm To Bring More Rains To South This Weekend
Another southern tracking low pressure system looks like it’s on tap for the weekend, over portions of the South-Central Gulf coast and the Southeast United States. The latest weather computer models are trending towards another Gulf of Mexico area low pressure to develop and move along the Northern Gulf coast and North Florida. If this pans out like the models are forecasting, this would bring another round of beneficial moderate to heavy rains to the Deep South and Florida. Once again this would be a great help to keeping fire threats low, and helping with area drought indexes. Nice to see rain chances continuing here in mid Winter in area’s normally dry this time of year.
Depending on how much moisture return takes place over the next few days, and cloud cover in the warm sector over the weekend, there could be some strong to severe storms possible ahead of the low pressure system and associated cold front to swing through the south and much of the Florida Peninsula. Will be watching closely to see if anything comes together for a more stronger convective system this weekend.
Next Week Could Bring Another Severe Weather Episode
Some of the extended outlooks are beginning to show a stronger setup moving in from the west into the Plains and Deep South, where a better chance of severe storms are looking possible. It’s still early, but next week could be pretty active in the storm department….will have to wait and see how things setup. For now, focused on this weekends rains and slight chance of possible storms in Florida.
