Southern States Continue Rain & Storm Chances

Slow-Weather Start This Morning
A really bright moon begins the morning today, as I was out early. The winds have relaxed some now after a gusty day on Monday as the pressure gradient was tight along the coast, which also helped to bring in some showers. Not much going on today weather-wise here in Florida and around the nation.
There is a chance of isolated elevated storms over the Lower Mississippi Valley and Deep South today, ahead of a weak disturbance moving through. Once again nice to see precipitation chances up in the South here in the middle of winter and drought. All these little and moderate rain events will add up come spring and the wildfire season. Right now it’s looking better for rainfall totals in the Deep South and Florida than this time last year. Lets hope the southern Jet Stream remains active, and there are some signs in the forecast models that it will at least through this upcoming weekend.
Possible Severe Weather Episode This Weekend In The South
The latest weather forecast computer models are flip-flopping around, but it’s beginning to look like if moisture can rebound by the weekend over the Northern Gulf coast and lower Mississippi Valley, there could be a severe weather setup in the future this Friday and Saturday. The Sub-tropical jet once again could be cranking up a southern tracking storm this weekend, bringing severe storms, isolated tornadoes, and yes, more decent rains for the southern states. Will have to see how the moisture return pans out, and wait for the models to come into better agreement. It could be a interesting weekend for some…stay tuned.
