Florida Cold To Be Replaced With Warmer Weather

Jeff Gammons 2008Currently sitting near the coast in West Palm Beach, shooting video of the chilly morning beach weather and people out voting at the polls, and pretty much killing time before I head off to vote in the Florida Primary Election myself later this afternoon. Another chilly morning in South Florida with temperatures in the upper 40’s to lower 50‘s. It’s not as cold as up in Southern Georgia, where Dewdrop has frost covered fire ant mounds in her backyard. Ha! I thought her post from yesterday was great showing a fire ant mound covered in frost…Today, our winds should turn more easterly and begin to modify our temperatures back towards the mid 70’s. Looks like a ridge will be building in and the next series of shortwave troughs to move in from the west will stay well north of us over the Deep South unfortunately, so no storms for me this week but we’ll remain warm for the rest of the week, and I’ll take that!

Severe Storms Expected Next Few Days Southern Style

As I said above, there will be some disturbances tracking through the southern states the next few days, and much of the Mississippi Valley and Deep South are in store for some severe thunderstorms, and possibly a few tornadoes. Moisture and warmer temperatures need to rebound first, and today’s storms will likely be elevated at first with a shallow moisture profile at many sites. The severe weather might become more interesting by Thursday along the Gulf coast region, but it remains to be seen how much moisture can return.

SDS Under Control At The Moment

I look at the calendar on the wall and see that I’ve almost made through January without any SDS snaps that have become out of control. I keep reminding myself that the spring storm season will be here soon. Each evening the sun sets a little later and a little later, and soon we’ll be back into our longer days and higher sun angles. Oh yeah!
