Lunar Eclipse Time-Lapse Video February 20, 2008
Like many last night, I was out watching the Lunar Eclipse and was lucky enough to see it in Florida with all the clouds in the area. It seemed there was a small area of clear skies that developed over Lake Okeechobee and over Palm Beach County, but the rest of Florida was socked in with mid-level clouds streaming in from convection way out in the Gulf of Mexico. It was a cool nice evening to watch the moon Eclipse, so I decided to shoot a time lapse the best I could. It takes a lot of babying the camera as the moon is in motion, and with a tight shot you’ll loose the moon real fast. Even had my dinner out on the patio as I had to continuously pan the camera about every 5-8 minutes.
I shot video for about 2 ½ hours up to the point of the full eclipse, and then very heavy clouds began to move in, plus I was beat and didn’t feel like sticking around outside for the second half of the show. So, in the video, you’ll see the first half of the eclipse and then clouds move in at the peak about 10:35pm ET. It was a fun evening shooting some space weather and I hope you enjoy the Lunar Eclipse Time Lapse Video. [PLAY VIDEO] 2.13MB
Rain Chances Increasing Later Today - Gulf Coast Severe Storms
As for today’s weather, I hoping to receive some rain, and I’ll be monitoring the severe weather expected along the Northern Gulf coast. I plan to get out and get some lawn work done before any rains move in, so I better wrap this up now. Enjoy the video and I hope you were able to see the Eclipse last night as well. Please share you stories or links in the comment section of this post.

Great video, Jef! It WAS tough keeping it in the frame. I love how the video gives the illusion that you are dragging it back into place, sort of like grabbing a kid by the ear and saying oh now, you get back here, like how parents used to do before DFCS…
I’ve got you linked… borrowed your screen shot… hope you don’t mind. Hope you beat the rain with your yard work… watch out for those stray lawn ornaments… they can be a nuisance.
Thanks! I know how you like those time-lapse scenes. Thanks too funny
Now that I look at the video, I sit it! Get your butt back over here now! I have yet to start my lawn because I have been sucked into watching this warm front boundary slowly lift north from the Keys. More storms developing. Hmmmm!
It’s like a moth being drawn to the fire, isn’t it? Oh well, the lawn will be there tomorrow.
Hey Jeff we got lucky again in SE TX. We were on the far SW side of any action. Beaumont and eastward into LA had the severe weather. One thing that stands out along the Upper TX Coast is the saturated grounds. We are very wet. Should we get heavy Spring rains there will be problems.
I know, the southern Jet stream has been so active the last 4-5 weeks. Texas and the northern Gulf coast have been getting some good rains now. A big change from a yyear ago when things were so dry and the fires started to pop up in GA and FL.
We picked up some decent rains once again here in Florida today, and the last few weeks have been pretty wet at times. Better than 8 weeks of no rain like last winter and early spring.
