Southern Rains and Storms Continue Today
The wet rainy pattern looks to continue this afternoon not only here in Florida, but over much of the Southeast United States. South Florida yesterday picked up some decent rainfall, and even over Lake Okeechobee. These rains that have been falling over the last few weeks on and off is a huge difference than this time last year. Last February we were dealing weeks on end without any rain. The dry weather continued into much of the spring and then the wildfires began to take over. So far this year, we are looking ok in the rain bucket and soil conditions are not extremely dry.
Thunderstorms are in the forecast with a deep southwesterly flow today, and convergence looks to be the highest along the Florida east coast. I’m hoping to end the week out here this afternoon shooting video of some lightning and a few cumulus time-lapse towers. Further north over northern Florida into Georgia, the wind dynamics are more interesting and there is a chance for severe storms and a few isolated tornadoes. That area will be worth watching as well throughout the day. I’m heading out shortly for the coast and will update this evening if I come across anything interesting storm wise. Enjoy your Friday and weekend.
