Southern Indian Ocean Severe Tropical Cyclone Jokwe
While were all ready to head into our spring season of severe storms here in the Northern Hemisphere in the United States, the Tropical Cyclone season is still very active in the Southern Hemisphere with two cyclones. The most recent storm to affect a population was Severe Tropical Cyclone Jokwe that hit northern and central Mozambique Saturday, causing severe damage to homes and power grids. The cyclone first made landfall over the Mozambique Island before hitting the northern coastal province of Nampula. Tropical Cyclone Jokwe is now continuing southward back out into the Mozambique Channel and expected to re-intensify. The latest satellite imagery loops show the convection associated with Jokwe once again in the increase in organization.
Tropical Cyclone Kamba Strengthening
The second non-threatening storm is Tropical Cyclone Kamba, which is located in the open Southern Indian Ocean at this time. Kamba has just been recently named and continues to organized, and with hints of a eye developing on satellite imagery. Right now the forecast track remains out over open ocean. Another interesting cyclone to monitor through satellite pictures from the other side of the world. Othern than these two cyclones, the tropics are calm worldwide this weekend.
I like to track weather systems worldwide sometimes when the weather back home here in the United States is slow. It has been a outstanding weekend here, so I had to go and find something a little more active to review. Unfourtantly it had to be a deadly tropical cyclone in the South Indian Ocean.
