Spin-Spin Baby - Enjoying Some Weak Convection

Very weak shear funnel / rotationTuesday brought some showers and isolated thunderstorms to south-central and South Florida. A moderate upper-level trough moved through the state helping to enhance convergence and develop thunderstorms. Some of these storms although weak, did show signs of some mid and low-level rotation at times. A warm front south of the Keys was also helping with some overrunning further south over the Gulf waters and Cuba. There was enough instability during the day though to help sustain some of the storms, especially along the south end of Lake Okeechobee in the Belle Glade region.

Patio Deck Tower Spotting In The Dark - Yeah I’m That Bored

Another view as it dissipatesLater in the evening I had one weak shower/storm move just to my north, leaving a remnant flanking line of towers. When the southern end of this line moved overhead after dark, there was a brief moment when there was some mid-level rotation with a very short-lived mid-level funnel feature. It actually was pretty cool to watch as the stronger winds aloft tore into this tower. It quickly dissipated with the stronger shear putting a end to the weak updraft. Most of the storms throughout the day Tuesday were high based due to lower moisture levels, especially north of the Everglades region.

Today drier air is forecast to build in with high pressure, but a return to moisture will begin on Thursday as the flow returns to a southeasterly direction. Some possible shower chances towards the end of the week and into the weekend before ridging sets up ahead of a southwest United States digging trough. Otherwise, it looks pretty slow for the remainder of the week as it looks now, hopefully this will change in the longer range outlook. ….Halfway through the week…the weekend is in view.
