Severe Storms Return To The Southeast Today
Georgia looks to be under the gun for more severe weather this afternoon after last nights possible tornado that moved through the heart of Atlanta. Today, the Storm Prediction Center has all of North Georgia and much of South Carolina in a moderate risk for severe storms, including Supercells and tornadoes. Another potent upper-level disturbance will be tracking through the south and will lead to the development of a surface low pressure system that will help convergence for storms by early afternoon.
TSTMS IN THIS ENVIRONMENT WILL BE CAPABLE OF GENERATING STRONG TORNADOES AND VERY LARGE HAIL. SOME CELLS MAY REMAIN ANCHORED ALONG PIEDMONT BOUNDARY AND COULD TRACK FOR SOME DISTANCE ACROSS PARTS OF GA/SC…AND PERHAPS EVEN INTO NC THROUGH THE EVENING.
Monitoring The Risk Of Severe Storms In Georgia and South Carolina
I plan to do a little arm chasing later today, but J.J. and I are planning to head out into the northern Everglades for some stock video. It’s another outstanding very warm Florida day under clear skies. It’s great and feels truly like spring out there this morning. So, when I get back, things should be popping storm-wise over northern Georgia and worth a watch on radar.
I have quite a few readers of this weather blog that live in and around Metro Atlanta to Athens, and you all should pay close attention this afternoon to your weather. Tornado watches and warnings are possible in the coming hours, so keep a radio close by if outside and tune in to TV updates every now and then.
