Florida Strong Storms Over Easter Weekend - Video
The Easter holiday weekend here in Southern Florida was one soggy wet mess both Saturday and Sunday. A weak low pressure system in the eastern Gulf slowly moved across Florida over the weekend, helping to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms. Some area’s of South Florida received 2-4 inches of rain causing street flooding and damage to property. Sure the Easter Holiday weekend was a rainy one, but it was good to receive all the rain into our dry surroundings. Record rainfall for this time of year, and still recovering from the long-term drought of the last two years, made for some good news with all the rain. Saturday night it rained all night here at my house, making for some great sleeping weather.
Backyard Storm Chasing On Easter Sunday - Nice Structure
On Easter Sunday though, I was treated to a weak low-topped rotating storm, with no lightning, but beautiful storm structure and heavy precipitation at times. The storm was very compact and low-topped, but had some nice low-level shear to it. Several times it produced a weak but noticeable funnel that lasted a few minutes, but then would become rain-wrapped and the inflow would be cut off. If there was just a tad more instability, this cell would of really gone wild, but it struggled to sustain itself during it’s hour life time. Nevertheless, I enjoyed every minute of that storms life. I tracked it from Highlands County through central Okeechobee County where it died at sunset. I quickly shot off a time lapse as it weakened as the heating of the day faded.

OBSERVED A WATERSPOUT 3 MILES SOUTHEAST OF BOCA CHICA NAS.
All in all, an interesting Easter weekend for sure, and we picked up some good rainfall totals, plus I got to intercept a mini-wannabe-meso-like-feature on Easter. Hope your Easter was as fun as mine. Enjoy the video.
